A celebration of the Rockport Small Business Person of the Year- Jay Smith of Smith Ace Hardware & Lumber.
 

Jay Smith is the president of the 147-year-old company that owns and operates Smith Hardware & Lumber, Hometown Ace Hardware, and Crackerjacks-Whistlestop Market. He has been part of the family business since childhood. Over the years Jay has done everything in the store, from sweeping the floors to stocking merchandise and delivering grain: “Our business is one of the oldest on Cape Ann, and we're still working hard to deliver personal small-town service in our modern world.” 

Jay’s involvement in Rockport’s civic and community life has been extensive through the years, including the Rockport Christmas Tree Committee, the Rockport Rotary Club and the Tyrian, Ashler, Acacia Masonic Lodge. His support for Rockport’s business community includes his service as board president of the former Rockport Chamber of Commerce, as a member of Rockport’s Small Business Committee and as a director and long-time member of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce.

He has been married to his wife Stephanie for 32 years. They have three grown children.
